What You Can Expect from Coaching
Our coaching sessions will be tailored to your specific needs and goals. We might focus on areas such as:
Enhancing relationship dynamics and communication
Navigating the complexities of nonmonogamy
Exploring and affirming your queer identity
Building self-confidence and resilience
Achieving personal and professional goals
The difference between coaching and therapy may seem subtle, so we will need to discuss your individual needs in a consultation call, but here’s the basics:
Coaching focuses on personal growth, achieving goals, and improving quality of life and relationships without diagnosing or treating mental health conditions. This service is available to clients nationwide, allowing me to work with you regardless of your location. In my role as a coach, for example, we might discuss how your trauma history impacts your relationships, but for specific trauma therapy, I would refer you to a local therapist.
Therapy includes everything that coaches can do, but can also involve treating mental health conditions. As a licensed therapist in California, I provide therapeutic services within that state, adhering to specific legal and ethical guidelines. For example, I would only do deep trauma wok for PTSD healing under my license in California, not as a coach.
What if I have a mental health diagnosis that I want to talk about?
This is definitely not off limits! I am still me, with all my training and expertise, so you can feel safe knowing that I can understand the complexities of living with a spicy brain, even if we’re not getting too in the weeds. Often people who want specialized support for queer and non-monogamy issues see a coach for that, while working with a local therapist on their mental health. I am also a very collaborative provider, so I will coordinate with your local therapist to make sure you are getting all the support you need (and I can provide them with some education along the way)!
